Well it’s fall and there is a lot of fishing left until the snow falls. A friend and I decided to go to our local lake, Caesar Creek in Ohio, just to see what we could catch. We started the day of fishing a little before day light with a little breeze giving us just a little chop on the water. Now everyone has their preference on fishing gear; I like to have three rods, two spin cast and a bait caster for trolling. I like using braid fishing line at least 4 lb diameter and not more than six lb diameter. My spin cast reels are at least 7 bearing, I like the smooth action. The rods are 6 ½ to 7 feet one peace rods medium heavy. We were fishing in my friend’s boat. He carries about... [Read more of this post]

For the past few years four of us have trekked to the AEP Recreation lands near Zanesville, Ohio. The land formally (Ohio Powers) was used for drilling and mining and has now been “reclaimed” into a wonderful wildlife retreat. This area now offers all types of outdoor recreation including; fishing, camping, hunting, hiking, and horseback riding. Although there are plenty of campsites, we stay in a little bed and breakfast in McConnelsille. While there are numerous outdoor activities to be enjoyed, our trip is for one purpose; fishing. In the fall of the year normally the last week of September my son, brother, I and a friend takes a 3 hour trip to McConnelsville, Ohio. This is a fall fishing trip in which normally we stay about three days. We fish an area owned by AEP (America Electric Power Company) this area is open to the public; all it takes is a permit that you can print out from their web site. AEP has around 300 lakes to fish some are very small while others are over a mile long. But this is not a story about fishing in the AEP area this is a story about the Muskingum River Carp and Catfish. Each day we track around on the AEP area and then in the evening we go back to our hotel, the Three Sisters Inn on NW 60. That’s... [Read more of this post]
Fishing a Timeless Family Activity

My father instilled in me the love of fishing when I was a child. We spent many wonderful hours at many locations, sometimes close to home, others farther away on vacations. Excluding winter, any opportunity that arose, we were gone to the nearest pond , lake or river for a great, relaxing day. I can still feel the anticipation that grew in me, even as a child, when we were driving to our favorite spot. There was a large pipe running under the road that connected both bodies of water. The current would change and I would see when the little fish were coming and going. It was so much fun. I still remember with great detail how my brother and I would try and catch crayfish. I was too scared to... [Read more of this post]
